During the time of the revised second edition, to jump on the bandwagon of the d20 SRD craze, they released an abhorrently broken BESMd Log in or sign up in seconds. The first edition was a slim, grey-covered book.
In addition, several genre based supplements were published for the game, as well as two original settings: For the flavor, though, the first edition was best, but I also enjoyed BESM d20 for what it brought to the d20 rules set.
I just checked Amazon, and they were outrageous. Pulver began writing supplements for what was essentially a fairly simple game, adding a detailed system for the creation of mecha with his book Big Robots, Cool Starships. Please browse through our FAQ before posting.

It also reworded many of the rules and abilities to make them clearer and easier to understand. Starting inGuardians of Order replaced the company’s previous practice of producing stand-alone games for anime series for which they had obtained licenses with Ultimate Fan Guides — a series of supplements for BESM which combine information on the episodes, characters and themes of anime series with statistics and game information for those series.
I’ve never looked too deep at the d20 edition, but it didn’t appeal. What excited them about running a game? BESM may not be the strongest option for you although it is very generic, so it can cover a lot of bases decently.

The initial edition, designed by Mark C. It also pumps up the detail with which you define things to the extreme. Its a small book and works well if the GM is not worried about balance and the players all trust each other.
BESM isn’t really “anime” as such, it’s a generic system themed with anime-esque art and descriptions. What’s the most fun version of BESM? The announcement stated the company was “extremely confident” that a release date of January would be met and confirmed that those who pre-ordered and prepaid for rp book would be “in good hands”, though it was also said that they have not taken on Guardians of Order’s liabilities. This has scaling issues in high powered games, pretty much once one of your attributes gets into double digits, things get kind of weird. Just make sure their attacks can’t do more than 30 damage without some sort of drawback, the don’t have more than 20 armor without some weakness or limitation, their attack combat value is max 9, and defense combat value is max 7.
Quite a few things which were seperate powers in 2nd edition, get replaced with a footnote of to get power X, take Power Y and apply the following customisations. It’s pretty obvious when things are broken. Due to licensing consideration, the three-volume set of fan guides for Slayers does not include any information from the movies and OVAs distributed by ADV Films.
The first edition of BESM was a bit of a clusterfuck, as it was GoO’s first release, but unlike many companies’ first releases, it was still playable and fun. The real question here is to figure out what kind ebsm game you’re looking to run.
But that was a while ago so who knows? That’s the edition I have and like a lot, though I have no exposure to the older ones. The new edition features a change in the Bexm game mechanic from a “roll-under” to the “roll-over and hit a target number” found in other games.
