Nothing here is especially well-written. Am I alone in feeling that way? Reflection of a kept Ape: I would recommend this book but not to the prude of heart.
Its interesting to read about his life there, his friend especially Terence and some criticism on Christianity. May 12, Lukasz Pruski rated it liked it. The thread snapped and settled on the end of her forefinger, a colorless pearl.

This unworldly smell is a matter for poets and I challenge them to face their responsibilities. The opening story, Pornographyfeatures no weird and bizarre elements from other shorts – its set in the London borough of Soho, with all its filth, decay and grime chronicled to a T.
This is the second book written by Ian McEwan, which includes 7 very disturbing short stories. It has been enre as reptilian, or as a repulsive inorganic stench, or again, as a sharp, womanly odor The conclusion is totally hilarious and very painful to read, especially for men, I would imagine.

ejtre Using the voice of one of the characters the author utters a phrase that could be the motif of the entire collection: The collection of stories here transform the ordinary into the fantastical and grotesque but sabanaz the same time are careful treatments of marginalised characters. A brilliant story about an English man staying in Los Angeles for vacation, his problems with loneliness and not finding a purpose or a place to belong.
Honestly, I didn’t understand most of the stories. Let me be honest. Although not as bizarre as the FIrst Love collection, you can still marvel at the way his mind works and the multiple subjects and themes he considers. The first piece, Pornography seems to be the most “normal” of the seven. McEwan lives in London. It is one of the saganas early works and the pieces read almost as if the author wrote them to practice his literary skills.
Apr 13, Bethany rated it liked it Shelves: Nothing about this is sexy at all. Dead as they come: I can’t tell you anything else because it will spoil the story for you. However, I believe that underneath the shocking nature of the story, perhaps Dead as They Come is more of a social comment of the trashyness of the rich – using their money to buy “plastic”, perfect women, whom are clearly unable to hold down real relationships??
Its about a man working in a porn shop owned by his brother and his juggling love affairs with two women which ultimately ends in terrifying circumstances.

Struggling with this one a bit! I think The Cement Garden is the best of early Ian.
